Workshop at CEBAS-CSIC

PhenolAcTwin (#951994) is an EU-funded H2020 project aimed at enhancing the research and innovation capacity of TUBITAK MRC Food Institute on dietary polyphenols. At the scientific level, this project is focused on the identification of dietary polyphenols at the molecular level, bioavailability as well as study of their biological activity (i.e., in vivo-in vitro).

CEBAS-CSIC is included in the network of this project (together with other leading research centers of INRAE in France and QIB in UK) as one of the epicenters in polyphenols investigation. Hitherto, the members of the Food and Health lab have contributed with numerous activities to achieve the main objectives of the PhenolAcTwin project.

Within the Work Package (WP)2 of the PhenolAcTwin project entitled Enhancing Research and Innovation Capacity of Young ScientistCEBAS-CSIC hosted a workshop (coordinated by Dr. Antonio González-Sarrías (WP2 Leader), Dr. Maria Victoria Selma and Prof. Juan Carlos Espín)

The session "Factors behind interindividual variability in response to phenolics: towards to personalized nutrition" included 4 oral presentations. Dr. Christine Morand (INRAE, France), Dr. Victoria Selma (CEBAS-CSIC, Spain), Dr. Paul Kroon (Quadram Institute Bioscience, UK) and Dr. Giménez-Bastida (CEBAS-CSIC, Spain) presented relevant results in the field of polyphenols and gut microbiota interaction.

In the last talk of the session, Dr. Giménez-Bastida described the results obtained, up to that moment, within the PolyBiota project. That was an unsurpassable opportunity to disscuss these results with some of the most outstanding scientist in the field of polyphenols and health.

The session "How to explore partnership for future joint proposals" included several short talks intended to give a brief description of the institutions involved in the PhenolAcTwin project. The main goal of this session was to find research strategies to promote the research and innovation capacity of the TUBITAK MRC Food Institute.

The last session "How to enhance the bioacailability and bioactivity of phenolics" included exceptional oral presentations by Dr. FA Tomás-Barberán (CEBAS-CSIC), Dr. R. López-Nicolás (University of Murcia), Dr. González-Sarrías (CEBAS-CSIC) and Dr. JC Espín (CEBAS-CSIC).

This workshop was a success considering the good opinions of the attendes. If interested, the title of the presentations can be downloaded on the link workshop.
