3rd International Conference on Food Bioactives & Health

The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic has been a major public health chracterized by unprecedented disruptions to daily life around the world. Scientific activiy has not remained aloof of this situation and dissemination of scientific results (one of the cornerstones of EU-funded projects) via international conferences has been dramatically disminished.

The 3rd International Conference on Bioactives & Health was an excellent opportunity to come back to normal and exchange knowledge in a face-to-face meeting. This was the first conference (and probably not the last one) in which we presented a poster describing the interesting results obtained within the PolyBiota project.

The poster entitled "Physiologically Relevant Curcuminoids Inhibit Angiogenesis via VEGFR2 in Human Aortic Endothelial Cells (HAECs)" describes cellular and molecular mechanisms by which curcuminoids modulate processess related to angiogenesis in vitro. A detailed description of these results are included in the open access article recently published in the journal Food and Chemical Toxicology. We also would like to share our poster if readers want to get an idea of our investigation before reading the manuscript. Please, do not heasitate to download it by clicking on this link.

VIII IDIES Conference

The main objective of the IDIES project is the initiation of high school students (research modality) to scientific research participating and collaborating in projects led by researchers of recognized national and international prestige.

The academic year 2021/2022, students of the IES Domingo Valdivieso (Mazarrón, Murcia) participated in the IDIES project and learned celular and molecular techniques performed within the PolyBiota project at CEBAS-CSIC. A detailed description of the activities carried out by the students is included on the section entitled Outreach activities.

VIII IDIES Conference aims to promote the interest of the students in scientific activities through the exchange of the knowledge acquired during the development of the project.
The preparation of the scientific results to be presented in the conference was an exciting trip for all of us. First, our students had to write the abstract with the most relevant information. Despite the difficulty of summarizing the results obtained, they did a great job as can be read on the book of abstracts (link to downdload it; in Spanish).

Next, we continued with the design of the poster in which it was explained the techniques used and the results generated using a combination of graphics, images and colors. The result was an excellent poster that clearly showed, in a simple way, all the results obtained that support the main conclusions of the study. If you are curious about how it looks, please click on the link and check it out.

VIII IDIES Conference: Poster session

The brilliant oral presentation done by our students was the cherry on top. The design of the slides was excellent, the flow of the information was appropriate and the enthusiam showed by them attracted the attention of the audience. Of course, as outstanding young scientists, they had no problem in answering all the questions raised.
